Since its inception, the Chorale has expanded its membership to include alumni, parents, and faculty of Dalton, along with friends and colleagues in the wider musical community—many with no connection to the school--who share a mutual pleasure in the music performed by the Chorale.

History; The Stonewall Chorale originated in December 1977 as the Gotham Male Chorus, and specialized in Gregorian Chant and Renaissance music. In 1979, women joined the chorus for the first time, and the name was changed to Stonewall Chorale, the nation's first Lesbian and Gay chorus.

The Stockton Chorale started as a double quartet in 1951 under the direction of founder Arthur Holton II. When the Stockton Chorale became an auditioned community chorus in 1955, the Chorale sang only Handel's Messiah for two years.
