We are in the process of building and the builder is using foam sheathing. Being much further north than you (Maryland) I am hopeful the sheathing will help with our heating bill. I found this on HGTV Pro and I will check back in the winter and post our experience with our new home.

I watched the construction of the home and saw the foamboard, ... If the patio had been added originally it would have been fastended to the studs or to plywood sheathing if used. It may well take multiple ledgers to simplify fastening details. The flashing needs to bring any water behind the stucco to the outside.

In those days if a home had felt and diagonal t&g interior wall sheathing (Burkett lathing), it was top of the line for warmth. I grew up in a Victorian built in 1900 by my uncles and grandfather. Obtaining products was not thought to be a problem with the railroad system in service.
