Here's a patina formula I found online that will give copper that bluish-green antique look you desire: Take 8 ounces of salt and 8 ounces of ammonium chloride and mix them with a quart of vinegar. Mix in a half ounce of ammonia when you are ready to put it on the copper.

The homemade recipes can be obtained in various publications. One that I highly recommend is: Jeweler's Resource, by Bruce Knuth. It is a hard to find publication but can be ordered by calling 509-624-8565. Another book is The Colouring, Bronzing, & Patination of Metals by Richard Hughes and Michael Rowe.

The lovely patina that copper takes on over time reflects its durability and its use. ... You may also use a homemade mixture of 1 cup coarse salt, 1 cup white vinegar, and enough cornmeal to form a paste. Wipe the mixture on the copper and rub lightly. Remove the excess paste under running water and dry with a clean cloth.
