I had the proper type of stones (silicon carbide IIRC) and some good honing oil that kept the stones open and cutting. In the case of the engine bore honing, I managed to get the right surface finish and still keep the size in tolerance.

My question is what are the general guidelines and procedures for engine cylinder honing? I have two cylinders that are leaking oil around the rings and I want to do a quick ring job. I really can't afford much money at this point so I want to do it myself.
