It was before my time, but - as I grew up - I heard many of my relatives speak of the Great Depression in the 1930's. They mentioned such things as HOOVER CARTS, which were horse or mule-drawn automobiles and trucks.

The front axle, springs and wheels were removed from an automobile and installed onto crude, home-made carts. Shafts were then attached for the purpose of hitching an animal to the contraption and, voila, The Hoover Cart was born.
