Scutigera-coleoptrata is the latin name for the most fearsome creature ever to enter my home, the house centipede. We first met when I visited my new apartment in Northeast Washington.

Pictured below is an immature house centipede (called a "nymph"). Note that the nymph has only 9 pairs of legs, while the adult house centipede (pictured in the Common Kentucky Centipedes section below) has 15 pairs.
