on our windows 2000 Domain we have a handful of windows XP Pro machines. but Mostly Windows 2000 Pro. one of the users has logged onto a Windows XP machine and then gone back to Windows 2000. now he has two sets of Quick Launch bars in his tool bar.

It is you that is saying the stupid thing- it works on this machine, and on every other machine I've added it to. It can be useful (for example) if you have several graphics programs installed- Windows links a file extension to one of them- this way you can choose which one you use.
