There is no evidence concerning Shakespeare's activities between 1585 and 1592. He probably served as an apprentice revising old plays for a few years. By 1594 Shakespeare had become a member of the Lord Chamberlain's Men, who were performing at the Theatre in Shoreditch.

Shakespeare may well have witnessed a morality play or two when he was younger, he may have heard of them, there may have been remnants performed at holidays...but he didn't write for an art-form that no longer existed (even though there is certainly a hint of influence in his own work).

Shakespeare by the standards of his time, came to the profession late. He must have worked exceptionally hard to become a successful actor only a few years after he arrived in London. That he was becoming a successful author at the same time is a tribute to his energy and genius.
