To control house sparrows eliminate all present and potential nesting spots at the site. Fill or net off all gaps, crevices and crannies. Remove or reduce all food and water sources. This is the only sure way to get rid of house sparrows.

I pretty much like any bird but was glad to get rid of the starlings out of my sofits. I saw why they have so few predators when my cat caught one and it screamed it's head off before we saved it. The house sparrows I solved by just not buying birdfood with millet.

From my experience, nothing works well to rid your martin house from starlings and those obnoxious sparrows. I have tried everything and to vote on what works best puts me on the "fence", teetering back and forth in indecision. ... what is the most effective way to get rid of them?

It's very slick and won't harm any birds. Out of the hundreds of sparrows and starlings I've nabbed, ... Trap and Martin houses are constructed in the spring when the weather permits me to open up the shop out in my garage. When the Martin season arrives things get hectic and everyone is excited to get their house up and ready.

Before trying to get rid of birds that are causing you problems, you should know the laws protecting birds. Killing any other bird besides pigeons, house sparrows, and European starlings is against the law in almost every state, and most are protected by federal laws as well.

Is there any food that other birds eat but House ; Sparrows don't? I believe they do not eat safflower seeds. House finches will, but house sparrows should not. I just put out Safflower and Peanuts. ... However, I have never seen a House ; Sparrow eat safflower, nor even try to get ON my upside down thistle feeder.

The only sure method to get rid of House Sparrows from an area is to remove the humans entirely! If you are attempting to encourage Bluebirds in your yard, anything you can do to discourage their competitors is appropriate.
