View Full Version : static on phone line ... In my area if you leave a phone off the hook the phone company sends a strong beeping through the line's ear piece. If the phone is not hung up then the phone line is de-energized and auto line check hits that house periodically looking for the lines to clear.

DSL companies typically have (had) a similar requirement to get a basic phone line. However, I have no need for this since I have a VOIP phone. (from Primus.ca which works nicely by the way, if you are interested other options include teliphone.ca, vonage.ca, ... A static IP would be nice but is not essential. I would like...

Unfortunately it seems the impedance and line voltage might be very off-- we get static when using regular phones, ... Most fibre fed remotes (Nortel access nodes, lucent FASTs , Etc) supply the standard 48 volts, the same as from a central office. Get a voltmeter and test the on-hook and off-hook voltages of your phone line.
