For a 440 Hz fundamental vibration, the overtones occur at 2 × 440 = 880 Hz, 3 × 440 = 1320 Hz, 4 × 440 = 1760 Hz, 5 × 440 = 2200 Hz, 6 × 440 Hz = 2640 Hz, etc. You might notice that the 2200 Hz vibration is missing from the group to the right.

If there were no overtones, that is, only the base tone, or if all instruments had the overtones, all of them would have the same sound. You cannot differentiate a tuning forkreed-pipe), because their overtones occur in the 7- and 8-' Octave and are...

Whenever a tone is sung, overtones (harmonics) naturally occur at fixed intervals above the fundamental tone. The combination of harmonics is what gives a particular voice or instrument its distinctive timbre.

The book says only that "overtones (harmonics) of fundamental absorption bands may be seen in IR spectra even though these overtones occur with reduced intensity." In the summer term Fryhle talked about compounds having a "fingerprint region" where there are small peaks that are unique to that compound.

(Overtones occur only at odd multiples.) Consequently, it is important to know whether the oscillator is operating in fundamental or overtone mode. An overtone is similar in concept to a harmonic, except that crystal oscillation overtones are not exact integer multiples of the fundamental.

Each syllable has a bandwidth of approximately 100 Hz, and consecutive syllables descend from a maximum of 850 Hz to a maximum of 700 Hz. Prominent overtones occur at 1250 to 1500 Hz, while subtle overtones occur at 1950 to 2100 Hz.

Harmonic overtones occur naturally whenever a tone is sung, although they are generally inaudible. These partial sound waves can be selectively amplified when a skilled singer manipulates their resonances by changing the shape of the mouth and throat, thereby sounding two or more pitches at the same time.

Addressing infrared, IR, FTIR, NIR and molecular spectroscopy. ... For example, C-H stretch combination bands occur four times, the C-H overtones occur four times, the O-H combination bands (three times), the O-H overtones (three times), and the N-H overtones (three times).

The A flat overtone dominant scale is derived from the overtones that occur in nature when a note is played. These overtones create a scale that can be best explained as a dominant seventh scale with a sharp fourth degree.
