Will this patch fix the problem that some people have experienced of seeing a stale page after logging in (making it seem as if the log in failed)? This sounds like a case where the browser is confused about which cache copy to pick.

Yes, I'd rather not have the first visitor to a new or stale-cache page have to endure the extra time of fully dynamic page generation, but viewer based caching keeps my cache tight - the output that is most viewed is what is in the cache.

In the process I have found that the page cache is consuming about 20G of the 24G of memory on the box.
