Just for fun, I recently signed up for an AOL account through one of those ubiquitous free CDROMS, and now that I've poked around a bit, ... I'll call them on the phone and cancel my account the old-fashioned way, ... For a limited time you may reactivate it, keeping your current screen names, by clicking on AOL and signing back on.

I'm not familiar with AOL's email policies. You ought to try asking them. If you still have access to the old e-mail account, you might be able to set the account to redirect mail to your new account. If your old account has been canceled, you probably have lost ownership of it now. ... need to reactivate e-mail address;

I canceled an temp AOL account that was set up in 5-03. The temp account was established by AOL customer service when I was told I could not reinstate my previous AOL screen names.Only to discover during installation I went to AOL help online and was able to reactivate my old screen names.

Couldn’t say how fast the connection was, because at that rate, I opted to reactivate an old AOL dial-up account for a month, rather than pay over three times as much for the three days I was covering the tournament.

I was able to reactivate an old AOL IM account and promptly chatted with my brother-in-law. As I also just got a new Gmail account, I entered my Googlechat ID into GAIM and voila! I now run these two services together with MSN, ICQ and Yahoo!
