I also bring along some lengths of cotton cord that I tie around any line going under the tarp ("line"= rope, ... (A taunt-line hitch works well for this.) The cotton absorbs the water and conducts it down the knot and tag ends allowing the majority of the water to drip off rather than soaking your hammock and sleeping bag.
