For me, the biliary sludge caused a bad problem... it caused the bile to back up into my gallbladder. It's a wonder that I was able to digest anything at all. My surgeon said that because of all the sludge, if we had not done the ERCP first and cleaned it out, there would have been no way to do laproscopic surgery.
