If i can justify the boost a 10 farad cap -carbon or electrolytic or both- will give to my system, ill put one on each amp i have. i gotta know what the hell a farad is, and how much power it dumps out. if its as weak as people say it is, then how many weak farads do i need for it to do something.

Just curious what size (how many farads) capacitor I should get for my stereo I am putting together/adding onto. I already have a higher output (135 amp) alternator, I will be getting an Optima red top battery. Don't need an extra battery, because I will not be playing the system ... 1 farad per 500 watts RMS will be good.

i'm running 2 12" subs, on a 1000W amp. how many farads do i need in a capacitor? I know a farad is a measure of energy, but whats the difference between buying a 1.5 farad cap and a 40 farad cap? Can anyone exlain the whole "farad" and "capacitor" thing to me? ... normally reccommended 1 farad per 1000 watts, i'm sure 1...

its a good thing you said that , because i was actually wondering how many farads i would need. one more question though.. i have 2 800w kenwood amps. would i need to have one capacitor per amp? or just one 3 farad or so should be enough running thru the distribution block that i have already for the 2 amps.

cool... just out of curiosity though, how do you figure out how many farads you would need? also.... 1000w inverter sufficient? ... I'm only 670RMS (per amp birthsheet 4Ohm x1 or 2Ohm x2) output by Sub amp.. and 1 50x4 (so like nothing) from the headunit.. I'd like to see where you'd got the idea for only 2 farad...

alright the formula for finding capacitence is Q/V or coulombs divided by volts. but 1 coulomb is equal to 1 ampere per 1 hour. so just take the amprage of the amp divded by 12 volts and ya should get how many farads.
