A lb. of Basswood is much lighter than a lb. of Alder. I know Basswood is lighter than Alder, but how can a pound of it be lighter than a pound of Alder? A pound is a pound regardless of wood type. So an 8 pound bass is going to weigh the same 8 pounds regardless of wood.

Anyone weighed their ash bodied L2500? How much is heavy? My 5-string Ibanez is the next thing to probably be replaced by a G&L and it weighs 10lbs, which is fine for me. Would an ash bodied Tribute or Fullerton L2500 weigh more than that? ... Having a basswood body with a thin Ash top should reduce the weight by over a pound.

A Strat body will weigh from 5 lbs. ... This is a lighter weight wood offering Strat bodies usually under 4 lbs. The color is white, but often has nasty green mineral streaks in it. This is a closed-grain wood, but can absorb a lot of finish. This is not a wood for clear finishes, and it is quite soft, not good for much abuse.
