But even more, I hope Apple will surprise us with an iTunes subscription service. Sure, the current offerings are far from perfect (more work is certainly needed on the new portable subscriptions, for example). And sure, nobody is making any money on these services so far—at least not much.

If you look to see how much business 99 cent tracks do as compared to subscription based services, expanding their line would not really bring in enough business to even set up such a service. Can you imagine the overhall they’d have to do to iTunes to even allow such a thing to happen?

I totally love this idea. It's not the first iTunes subscription rumor we've heard, either. I'm not betting that would happen. ... If you're a casual music fan, you probably don't spend much more than US$129 a year on music anyway, ... Do you really think that the studios are going to decide that albums should cost $2/each?

I doubt you would see additional cost for an iPod/iPhone - more likely the existing price structure will stay static for longer than it would without the subscription model (i.e. less price drops for iPhone/iPod products) so introducing extra cost in a hidden sort of way. ... *hurl* sorry to much windows; ... Is Apple building a monthly television subscription service, ... $35 would be a significant cost for this service. Consider, $30 for broadband + $35 for this service would end up being “about” the same cost as a digital cable package. More likely iTunes would resemble Netflix in terms of pricing and content library.
