But just how much salt is needed to make an egg float? In this science fair project, you will figure that out by ... Does a hard-boiled egg float at the same salt concentration as an uncooked one? Hint: You’ll need to measure the same egg before and after hard boiling and be very precise about your serial dilutions.

It takes about 6 tablespoons to float and egg in a glass of water. The buoyancy changes with the salt, so the water becomes heavier than the egg.

Add salt to water. Add one teaspoon of salt at a time-it may take some time to dissolve (leave the egg in the glass). Ask the students to record how many teaspoons of salt are added to the water. The egg will eventually float.

An egg is about the same density as water. But if you put salt in the water, you are adding mass to the water without changing the volume of the water very much. So a liter of normal water would weigh about 1000 grams, but a liter of salty water might weigh 1050 grams (depending on how much salt you put in).

Science project title: How much salt does it take to float an egg? I am a 3rd grade student of Seoul American Elementary School in Seoul South Korea. I have conducted the experiment and found out that the more salt you put in and dissolved in a cup of water the greater the chance of floating the egg.
