They are armored from head to foot, and at least one wears a buckler. It looks like fully armored men did sometimes equip themselves with bucklers, although the practice seems to have been rare. Were they ever used by fully armored combatants in tournaments or other consensual deeds of arms?

Binder: The buckler can be used to bind an opponent's sword hand and weapon as well as their buckler against their body. The buckler is also very useful in grappling where it allows an opponent's arms to be easily wrapped up and controlled.

Giovanni Antonio Lovino’s text on the rapier and other weapons from 1580, Traite d Escrime, also included material on the classic buckler used with the narrow rapier.
