I had a real problem with roly poly bugs. They were committing suicide in my garden pond by the hundreds each day and I am not kidding. Did some research and found out about diatomacheous earth. Got some at a local nursery and sprinkled it around everywhere ... I came to the internet to see how to get rid of these demons.

A. Although the names sow bug, pill bug and roly-poly are often used interchangeably, we are actually talking about two specific non-insects ... When I get emails about them, I write back to explain that they mostly live on decayed plant material and to ask if the writer is SURE that they’re the ones doing the damage.

I have snails, slugs, moles, grubs and roly-poly's(at least I think thats what they are called) in my soil. I also have tons of worms so at least I have one good bug. ... I have heard that egg shells or crushed oyster shells work to get rid of snails/slugs.

Sowbugs and pillbugs range in size from 1/4 to 1/2 inch long and are dark to slate gray. ... Sowbugs also have two tail-like appendages which project out from the rear end of the body. Pillbugs have no posterior appendages and can roll up into a tight ball when disturbed, for which they are sometimes called "roly-polies".

It ended up getting rid of most of the roly polys as well as the shells (that I am sure were going to grow into full-blown slugs). I took the bugs to a nursery and they said they were harmless, but my plants (verbena and annual flowers) were ... Around my raised bed gardens it is impossible to get rid of them,
