You basically use lighter, longer lines in these deepwater jigging applications, and the thin wire of a casting jig allows easier hook penetration on lighter, longer lines. in fact, it would be downright difficult to hook fish in these situations with heavy wire jig hooks designed for shrt range pitching and flipping.
