This isn't to be taken lightly: depending on how much topcoat is on the car to begin with, it is VERY, VERY easy (even for an experienced painter) to sand too far and go through into the primer or even to bare metal, particularly on edges and bends and all the contours of a VW bus.

wet sand with 150 grit to get to old paint. then use 400 grit to retouch surface b4 painting. most primers will stick to old paint if it was preped right. just scuff and paint.

This must be done according to the specs of the next product to be applied. A product like primer may have particles in it that are 3 Mils. ...
