I remember my grandfather mentioning that it's possible to call nightcrawlers with sound. I guess this involves pounding a metal bar into dry soil, then whacking the bar to make a lot of underground noise. This is worth a try, and nobody has to risk accidental death by electrocution.

That's how we got worms when I was a kid. ... I used to use all those tricks to get worms growing up - shock em out of thr ground with an extension cord and screwdriver the whole nine yards.....that was in soil rich farmland Indiana.........I live in Va Beach now......2 kinds of soil here ::: sand or rock solid clay !
