On a horse that knows his job but is lazy with a rider that has great hands and understands how to use them draw reins can be used with little problem so they aren't all bad. Just mostly they are used when not needed to replace good training.

Yeah, i've never used them to jump, but i find that if i use them warming up, ... I think the kind of draw reins that hook to the breast-plate and not under the girth are perfectly okay to a certain height as long as the person using them is experienced - you can give a release with them because of how they are attached.

There are "training" classes at some shows where you CAN use draw reins and several other training aids that are in addition to the regular bit and reins.
