The IBM 650 occupies a unique place in computer history as the earliest ancestor of the personal computer. Most computers that came before it were designed to expand the envelope of computing, and were usually bigger, faster, and offered more bells and whistles than their predecessors.

To ease the work of the IBM 650 programmer, and to make IBM 650 pseudocode programs easier to read, we will add the capability to write IBM 650 pseudocode programs using a mechanism which will associate with each part of the program instruction a SYMBOLIC string of characters.
