I'm new at radio, so just for practise I tried to check the inductance of the coil Hue described: 42 turns on 2.5" diam. form, length 8". In searching the Web for formulas, I found two that give very different numbers.

It can be used to find the self inductance of an air cored solenoid coil. The range of dimensions over which this equation can be accurately used is unclear, the book makes no mention of its limitations. The equation is originally expressed with imperial units but it is straightforward to convert these to metric if desired.
