Good point Aaron. I always use steel fascias and stainless nails so they stay on longer than 4 years. Most aluminum fascias and nails fall out too easy. I have had where a customer wants them nailed from underneath and I predrilled the hole...

I am installing aluminum fascia cover on existing 1 x 6 fascia boards, while nailing though the aluminum I seem to get slight flaws or ripples in them. ... You should have installed the soffit first. The only time you install it first is for the prefab and the rolled soffit which I don't think is even made any more.

Check to be sure that your soffit has been installed before you hang the aluminum. Soffit is the material on the underside of your roof that hangs perpendicular to the facia and provides the same water protection.

Anything that is rotting should be replaced before beginning to install aluminum soffits. If your wood sub fascia is in bad shape, remove it an install a 2" x 8" or 1" x 8" to act as the new fascia.
