You only need to insulate between the floor joists around the perimeter, using fiberglass batts; then insulate the walls. That way you'll use less material and you won't be covering up or working around the maze of wires and pipes that run through a typical basement ceiling.

When insulating a heated basement, only the walls need to be insulated, but the ceiling may also be insulated for noise control between floors. Either Kraft paper-faced or unfaced exterior wall insulation can be used to insulate basement walls with existing or added 2x4 wall studs.
