Irreducible complexity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Irreducible complexity (IC) is an argument by proponents of intelligent design that certain biological systems are too complex to have evolved from simpler, or "less complete" predecessors, through n...

Although the argument from irreducible complexity is essentially a rehash of the famously flawed watchmaker argument advanced by William Paley at the start of the 19th century, Behe's book has attracted a great deal of attention from creationists and non-creationists alike.

Irreducible complexity can evolve. It is defined as a system that loses its function if any one part is removed, so it only indicates that the system did not evolve by the addition of single parts with no change in function.

Irreducible Complexity Revisited; William A. Dembski; version 2.0, revised 2.23.04; ABSTRACT: Michael Behe’s concept of irreducible complexity, and in particular his use of this concept to critique Darwinism, continues to come under heavy fire from the biological community.

Irreducible complexity is a term coined by Michael Behe in "Darwin's Black Box" as a proof for the necessity of a designer in earthly organisms. Unfortunately, Behe's definition of the term is intuitive rather than formal, and his examples of irreducible complexity are therefore not provably irreducibly complex.

A system which meets Darwin's criterion is one which exhibits irreducible complexity. By irreducible complexity I mean a single system which is composed of several interacting parts that contribute to the basic function, and where the removal of any one of the parts causes the system to effectively cease functioning.
