Chemistry question: Why is ethanol a polar molecule? well i do know that the 0-H bond, which is called the hydroxyl group is a highly polar bond and that all alcohols (OH group attached) are highly polar. ... How polar is ethanol? Is ethanol non-polar? How is ethanol polar? Why ethanol is a polar? Ethanol polar molecule?

That gives ethanol molecules both polar and nonpolar characteristics ... This is because iodine is nonpolar. You also saw that the iodine was less soluble in ethanol and acetone than it was in carbon tetrachloride. Ethanol and acetone are more polar than carbon tetrachloride. Iodine was more soluble in them than it was in...

yes as it is a relatively short alcohol and the -OH group makes this molecule polar. The longer the alcohol the less polar it is. This is because the electron density around the hydroxy group becomes less and less significant

Students learn to describe the uses of ethanol as a solvent and relate this to the polar nature of the ethanol molecule ... Since the hydrocarbon chain in ethanol is relatively short, the polar nature of the -OH group is still "visible" to other molecules. This makes the ethanol molecule polar overall,

Anothere way of saying it is ethyl alcohol or ethanol. Take your pick - they are all correct. When you added the alcohol, your ethanol became polar because the oxygen atom is a very large one and it has an oxidation number of -2. It's pull is much stronger that the hydrogens that are bonded to the carbons.
