Midnight is am and (obviously) noon is pm
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_midnight_am_or_pm
I have been having an argument about whether midnight (or midday) is AM or PM or if logically they cannot be either. I always believed PM switched over to AM at midnight, not 12:01. What is the accepted form?

In everyday use, midnight is normally denoted as 12:00 AM. However, if you want to be technical, midnight and noon are neither AM or PM. This is because `AM' means `ante meridian,' or before noon, while `PM' means `post meridian,' or after noon.

I believe conventional usage is that 12:00 pm is understood to mean "Noon", and 12:00 am is understood to mean "Midnight," inspite of the strict meaning of am/pm per the quoted reference.
