Since missing Mass is a serious matter, one's culpability would need to be judged on the basis of the other two aspects of a serious sin. Why did you miss Mass? ... I missed Mass last Sunday. Today, in his sermon, the priest said it was a mortal sin to miss Mass and that one couldn't go to Communion without going to Confession.
