19 All stainless steel can be magnetized through the plasma induction process of stabilization. In essence the ion stream from the dilithium crystals cause a phase shift into the sixth dimension. I know this because I'm from the future. - a...

All stainless steels with the exception of austenitic stainless steels are magnetic. This can be influenced by processes such as cold working and stress relieving. The effects of these processes are explained in this article. ... Magnetic response can therefore be used as a method for sorting grades of stainless steel,

status other age 40s Question - Is it possible for stainless steel (304) fragments worn from a solid piece of stainless steel to become magnetized? Also is it possible for a rare earth magnet to attract these pieces of stainless steel. ... 2. I am not sure, but I do not think 304 stainless is itself magnetic; however,

300 series stainless (304, 316, etc. alloys) are non-magnetic and highly corrosion resistant (rust resistant). GOOD STUFF, and vary in strengths like carbon steel and can be very strong. 400 series stainless steel is magnetic and will rust in high moisture environments (e.g., razor blades).

The question of magnetic properties has been an issue that has been quite misrepresented. Of the four structural types of stainless steel, only the Austenitic type is non-magnetic. This is due to the nickel content of the alloy.

Non-magnetic stainless steel on household items is very rare, it's more probable that your fridges are not really plated with non-magnetic stainless steel but rather plastic. However if it is really stainless steel (although I doubt it), you could make it slightly magnetic by heavy polishing.
