It makes no difference to me whether a couple is gay or straight. I think surrogate motherhood is a wonderful, thoughtful, generous thing to do. I just know that I could never do it. ... There are a lot of people who say that higher gas prices are a good thing, because they will force Americans to buy smaller, more fuel-efficient cars and seek out public transportation. For purely selfish reasons, I have never been a vocal proponent of this idea: My job requires me to buy gasoline, and quite a bit of it.
