megabyte = 1000 (or 1024) kilobytes ... If a gigabyte is 1024 megabytes and a kilobyte is 1024 bytes, a gigabyte is 1,073,741,824 bytes. This is slightly larger than 1,000,000,000 bytes, which is often used as an estimate for a gigabyte. For an explanation of why these units are sometimes multiplied by 1024 and not 1000,

Your friend tells you not to send anything bigger than a megabyte (MB) (most isps don't allow attachments bigger than a megabyte anyway). You look at your picture and it says 2052 kilobytes (KB). A kilobyte is smaller than a megabyte so are you safe to send it?

well, there's a history to this, with computer designers playing with different number systems, and for a while all you could say would be that a byte was bigger than bit but smaller than an actual word ... b for byte again, and M for mega: megabyte...

Measured in terms of kilobytes (KB), megabytes (MB), and gigabytes (GB). KB is small = ~1000 bytes. MB = ~1000KB. GB = ~1000MB. Megabyte is bigger than Kilobyte, and Gigabyte is bigger than Megabyte. Remember that when purchasing a hard drive.
