The shape of the universe is determined by a struggle between the momentum of expansion and the pull of gravity. The rate of expansion is expressed by the Hubble Constant, H o , while the strength of gravity depends on the density and press...

This interview was conducted in 2001 at ESA's European Space Technology Centre (ESTEC) in Noordwijk, the Netherlands, during an international workshop to discuss the scientific programme of the Planck satellite. ... So you have two possibilities for a flat Universe: one infinite, like a plane, and one finite,

An age-old question is: Is the universe finite in physical extent, or is it infinite? Both answers may seem, on the surface, to be impossible. ... We cannot rule out, as contradictory, the hypothesis that the universe is finite in extent, nor that it is infinite in extent, nor that it curves back on itself.

"The observable universe is finite," Sweitzer said, which is to say that it had boundaries -- physical limits. Sort of. "It's a boundary to the events we can see directly, but not a boundary in the sense that New York State h...

I would say universe finite at the moment and expanding reaching out to new areas. As for the Big Bang theory its just a theory which gives very good explanation of the observable universe. The radiations emitted during Big Bang are observe...

Perplexing observations beamed back by a NASA spacecraft are fuelling debates about a mystery of biblical proportions - is our Universe infinite? ... The test could detect very small circles. "We can push it to where there's no chance," Dr. Cornish said. The prospects for the finite universe, he added, look bleak."

I believe it was the "Misconceptions about the Big Bang." I'm still inclined towards a finite universe though, despite that I'm not qualified to say one way or the other :). EDIT: I see linwood has already pointed it out now :p. ... I believe the universe to be infinite; God is infinite, and we silly little humans try...

So what is there within our universe that we can truly apply the term infinity to? The universe itself is finite. Infinite mass, in black holes for example, would only appear to be a mathematical description. The age of the universe is finite, and even the number of particles in it is finite.

Have astronomers, astrophysicists, cosmologists, and general physicists decided definitely whether the universe is infinite or finite? I actually find an infinite universe much easier to grasp intellectually than a finite universe, since a finite universe to me always implies something "outside" the universe which...
