I have recently acquired a violin which is very old. It was my grandmother's brothers violin in the 1920's. He got it from his father in Graz, Austria. The interior label is very difficult to read but Jacobus stainer __ Absam ____ _______ 1648 with the "48" being hand written in a dull blue ink.

First, it seems to be a Jacobus Stainer. It has a stamp or engraving which says "Stainer" on the base of the kneck and a tag that I can read through the sound hole that says "Jacobus Stainer in Absam prope Oenipontum 1635" (35 ... Could this violin legitimitally have been made in 1635 as one of Stainer's earliest "models"?
