Jerome Kern was born in New York City on January 27, 1885. Growing up in the middle-class atmosphere of East 56th Street, he attended public schools. He was in many ways a link between the European operetta tradition and the Broadway musical style. Jerome Kern died in New York City on November 11, 1945.
