The three values that are used by far the most often in LD rounds, and are applicable to most resolutions, are justice, morality, and governmental legitimacy. For that reason, I'll spend the most time on those three, and then I'll briefly mention some other relevant values.

You will typically hear two definitions of justice in a debate round: "giving each person his/her due" and "balancing competing claims." What do these definitions mean? Values and Criteria: ... If you opponent drops important arguements, point that out and explain that according to the rules of LD Debate, that means he has agreed to them. Make your arguements very explicit and avoid arguementation about debate theory (i.e. the role of the criterion) or a particular philosopher.

I am still often puzzled by the way a value or values are used in a round, and I am also usually a bit perplexed by the way in which a criterion (which was added to the value or values in most places, I be-lieve, in the early 90’s) 1 is utilized in LD debate.
