Simple C programs using LAPACK ... LAPACK routines are written in Fortran 77 and although it is possible to use Fortran routines (at least on the Unix system, I have no idea what about Mac and PC) it takes a little bit more work.

The ATLAS (Automatically Tuned Linear Algebra Software) project is an ongoing research effort focusing on applying empirical techniques in order to provide portable performance. At present, it provides C and Fortran77 interfaces to a portably efficient BLAS implementation, as well as a few routines from LAPACK.
