Googling has taught me that this seems to be a UK thing (typical - limeys) and not that popular here, and nor can I find many products here. Has anyone done this using products available in HD etc?

PAINT AND DECORATE ... Limed oak was an effect created on real oak using the limewash, as mentioned, and when dry brushing off but leaving the white in the open pores of the wood. The lime, to some extent, bleaches the oak.

i'm so bored of all the pine in my living room and fancy a change ,but i'm unable to buy all new in one go, would it be wise to use ronseal 'limed oak' paint & grain on it, or would i ruin it? i am pretty artistic and i'm good with my hands so there's no hope of me doing a botch job but is the product good enough?
