I too am 49 and have always called these ulgy little creatures Locusts. I do remember being told they were actually cicadias but old habits are so hard to break, are they not? Sooooo...I stand corrected. The grandkids brought these (Cicadias Shells) to me and asked if I would sell them on eBay for them.

What you are finding are "Locust Shells". The annoying buzz on hot summer nights, from the trees overhead are locusts singing. They normally hang out in the trees but this season has been so dry they are having to come lower to find water sources.

Today, he wanted to go look for locust shells. For those of you that have no idea what that is, it is the shedded exoskeleton of a cicada. You can find them around here on trees and fences. We are a little early to find too many of them, but we went looking anyway.
