In honor of the event, I wondered if I could create the world's longest palindrome. A search for world's longest palindrome revealed that "In 1980, Giles Selig Hales claimed to have written the world's longest palindrome, which consisted of 58,795 letters." That didn't seem too hard to beat.

Between 1971 and 1980, the Guinness people kept a record for longest palindrome. During that time the record increased from 242 words to 11,125. I guess they came to their senses and dropped the category.
