All I can say is that making a bend-through-the-handle bow/prod, makes the most sense to me. The Sassafras prod above on my crossbow is of that design. Since the bow is short anyway, and of a high poundage, make as much of it work as possible.

Hi, has anyone any suggestions for 'scrap yard ' steel suitable for a crossbow prod, the obvious answer would be a leaf or coil spring... but is there something better ? ...
