Whatever the mass you would need for 1 dm3 of solution, you will need half as much if you are making up 500 cm3 (0.5 dm3) of solution. Let's say you want to make up a solution with a concentration of 0.01 mol dm-3. Then you would need 0.005 mol of ascorbic acid to make up 500 cm3 of solution.
