The mason and potter wasps are named for jug-looking nests they build from mud or clay. They are around ½" long, and similar in appearance to the mud dauber wasp. Although they have the capability to sting, mason and potter wasps are solitary and non aggressive.

Monobia quadridens, Mason Wasp, male (I think), on Aster novae-angliae 'Chilly Winds' in my backyard native plant garden this afternoon. Today was my first full day home since last Monday, and I was sick for nearly a week leading up to that.
