Sanguine, Melancholy, Choleric, and Phlegmatic. Based on the Greek idea of four fluids determining your temperament. While this view was useful, and actually followed a reality (i.e. people have a discernible temperament) four categories does not foster very deep insights into an one individual.

The four temperament categories are Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholy, and Phlegmatic. Each category or type is defined by a list of descriptive characteristics. Then people are assigned to one or more types by matching the person with those descriptions.
