The RISC concept was used to simplify the design of the IBM PC/XT, and was later used in the IBM RISC System/6000 and Sun Microsystems' SPARC microprocessors. The latter CPU led to the founding of MIPS Technologies, who developed the M.I.P.S. RISC microprocessor (Microprocessor without Interlocked Pipe Stages).
