Respect has to go both ways. ... I am a civilian working in sales, and I sometimes work with/sell directly to the military. I speak on the phone with people who call themselves “Chief …” and “Sergeant …” Is it proper courtesy for me (as a civilian) to call them “Chief …” when speaking with them?
